Deep Freeze is a kernel-level driver that protects hard drive integrity by redirecting information being written to the hard drive or partition, leaving the original data intact. This redirected information is no longer referenced once the computer is restarted, thus restoring the system to its original state at the disk sector level. This allows users to make ‘virtual’ changes to the system, giving them the appearance that they can modify core files or even delete them, and even make the system unusable to themselves, but upon reboot the originally configured ‘frozen’ state of the operating system is restored.
To make changes, a system administrator must ‘thaw’ the protected partition by disabling Deep Freeze, make any needed changes, and then ‘freeze’ it again by re-enabling Deep Freeze. These changes become part of the protected partition and will be maintained after restarts. ‘Freezing’ and ‘thawing’ can be done at the workstation level or remotely via the Deep Freeze Enterprise Console.
Deep Freeze can also protect a computer from harmful malware as it automatically deletes (or rather, no longer ‘sees’) downloaded files when the computer is restarted. The advantage to using Deep Freeze as an antivirus/antimalware application is that it uses almost no system resources, and does not slow down the computer noticeably. The disadvantage is that it does not provide real-time protection, therefore an infected computer would have to be restarted in order to remove malware.
Deep Freeze only protects workstations in a “fresh-booted” state. That is, Deep Freeze prevents permanent tampering with protected hard drives/partitions across reboots, but user activity between restarts is not limited by the program. For example, Deep Freeze does not prevent application installation; a user can install a modified version of a Web browser (but seemingly harmless to the unknowing user) designed to secretly send users’ passwords to a server connected to the Internet. As a workaround, Deep Freeze can be configured to restart after user logout, shutdown after a chosen period of inactivity, or restart/shutdown at a scheduled time in an attempt to ensure that no such installations are retained (as rebooting the system returns the system to its original, unmodified state).
Deep Freeze cannot protect the operating system and hard drive upon which it is installed if the computer is booted from another medium (such as an external hard drive, a USB device, optical media, or network server), or where the total volume of drives in the system is over 1.5 TBs[2]. In such cases, a user would have real access to the contents of the (supposedly) frozen system. On a Windows-based computer, this scenario may be prevented by configuring the CMOS on the workstation to boot only to the hard drive to be protected, then password protecting the CMOS, and finally locking the case shut with a physical lock or tiedown cable system to prevent access to motherboard jumpers. This is a normal precaution for most public access computers.

Keyboard tersebut bisa digeser dan dimodifikasi sesuai kebutuhan penggunanya. Jika tidak dibutuhkan, keyboard bisa dihilangkan dan layar dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai alat input berbasis sentuh (touchscreen).
Layar bagian atas dan bagian bawah tersebut bisa bekerja secara terpisah atau bisa pula digabung jika penggunanya membutuhkan tampilan yang lebih memanjang pada sistem operasi Windows 7 yang disediakan.
Jika digunakan secara vertikal, ultra mobile PC dengan prosesor Pentium Dual Core U5400 (1,2GHz dan L2 Cache 3MB), RAM 2GB, serta SSD 64GB tersebut bisa dipegang layaknya pengguna memegang buku atau majalah.
“Ide dari Libretto W100 adalah dari produk layar sentuh yang sedang marak di pasar,” kata Wong Wai Meng, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Computer Systems Division in Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, pada keterangannya, 7 Juli 2010.
Wai Meng menyebutkan, tren layar sentuh di smartphone akan bergeser ke mobile computing. “Meski demikian, karena produk ini sangat unik, kami hanya menyediakan sebanyak 1.000 unit saja untuk pasar Asia, termasuk Indonesia,” ucapnya.
Di Indonesia, Toshiba Libretto W100 akan hadir pada September mendatang dengan harga kisaran 1.349 dolar AS.

Demi mencegah agar pengguna internet di warung internet (warnet) tidak mengakses situs porno, setiap warnet di DKI Jakarta wajib mengaplikasi perangkat lunak (software) antipornografi.
Pemilik warnet juga diwajibkan memiliki izin usaha dan mendaftarkan ulang ke Dinas Komunikasi Informatika dan Kehumasan (Diskominfomas) DKI Jakarta sesuai Perda No 1 Tahun 2006 tentang Retribusi Daerah.
“Kini warnet harus meregistrasi izin usahanya dan wajib memiliki software antipornografi,” ujar Amir, Kasie Pos Telekomunikasi dan Kehumasan, Sudin Kominfomas Jakarta Timur, Jumat 9 Juli 2010, seperti dikutip dari situs Beritajakarta.com.
Sayangnya kewajiban itu tidak diikuti dengan sanksi bagi para pemilik warnet jika tidak mendaftarkan izin usahanya tersebut seperti yang tercantum dalam Perda Nomor 1 Tahun 2006 tentang Retribusi Daerah dan Perda No 10 Tahun 2008 tentang Penataan Organisasi Struktur Pemprov DKI.
Sedangkan persyaratan perizinan untuk usaha warnet juga telah diatur dalam Keputusan Diskominfo dan Kehumasan DKI Jakarta Nomor 25 Tahun 2010 tentang Tata Cara Pelayanan Izin Jasa Perpos dan Pertelekomunikasian di Sudin Kominfomas dengan melampirkan fotokopi akta pendirian perusahaan berbadan hukum yang disahkan oleh Menteri Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia (HAM).
Sejatinya peraturan perizinan warnet serta penggunaan software antipornografi itu telah disosialisasikan oleh pemerintah dan Asosiasi Warung Internet Indonesia (Awari) yang telah dimulai sejak 1 Juli lalu.
Para pemohon izin warnet juga harus melampirkan KTP asli pemiliknya atau penanggung jawab warnet untuk bekerja sama dengan provider penyedia jasa jaringan internet.
